RENEWING YOUR LICENSE FOR 2013

Law Offices of John P. Connell, P.C.:  The Licensing Board for the City of Boston (“the Board”) has issued an advisory letter concerning the procedures for renewing your current license for 2013

At the end of October this year, each licensee will be sent a packet containing the renewal application and all related documents, as well as instructions on renewal procedures, by mail. The following are several important points to remember including new regulations enacted for the 2013 renewal process:

One of the most highly publicized additions to the 2013 renewal policy is the Board’s directive to City Hall staff that no applications should be accepted if not filled out completely. The Board issued a Memorandum on September 26th, stating that if any licensee should submit an incomplete renewal application, it will no longer be accepted nor held under any exception.

In addition, the Board has extended the list of documents that should be submitted along with your completed application. The renewal application should now be accompanied by 1) a copy of a valid and current Building Inspection Certificate, 2) a copy of a valid and current Fire Assembly Permit, and 3) a current floor plan of the Licensed Premises. If you have not yet been issued any of these documents, a copy of the proof of payment for them is sufficient. However, any application submitted without one or more of these documents, or the equivalent proof of payment, will be deemed incomplete and thus will not be accepted.

It is also significant to remember that the listed manager of record, or one of the stockholders, owners or officers of the Licensed Premises must complete the renewal application. Any other person is not eligible to do so. Further, no changes can be made to the renewal application without the consent of the Board. Unapproved changes will be invalid and could result in sanctions placed on the Licensed Premises.

Full compliance with the renewal process will require knowledge of the all the Board’s regulations. These will be mailed to licensees in late October and can be found at the City of Boston website as well. The application, fees and all required documents for your renewed application are due in person at the Boston Licensing Board in City Hall by November 30, 2012. Any noncompliance will cause the expiration of your license at the end of 2012.
