The Law Offices of John P. Connell, P.C. recently acted as legal counsel to Le Dîner en Blanc, relating to the license that was necessary to serve wine to its guests. Robin Sosnow, from the Law Offices of John P. Connell, P.C., pictured here with friends, decided to attend the event herself to check out the scene, and here is her report:
On August 16, 2012, Le Dîner en Blanc went off without a hitch and was beautiful!
Members and invitees gathered at their meeting spots moments before seven p.m. to be shuttled or escorted via subway to the yet-to-be revealed secret dining location. Women were dressed in everything from simple white dresses to wedding gowns and adorned in hats of all styles, and gentlemen arrived in white tuxedos, linen suits, or white pants and polos. Everyone was in suspense. After a smooth check-in of IDs to ensure all participants were at least 21 years old, receipt of tickets for items purchased, including wine and catered picnic baskets, attendees were sent off to the secret place. Wine was served by the glass. Six ounces per pour, and one pour per ticket. Tickets were purchased in advance over the Internet. The license to sell wine was a “one day” license issued by the City of Boston pursuant to G.L. c. 138, sec. 14.
Baskets of food provided by the promoter contained three-course American, French, or Vegetarian meals and were pre-purchased online for a fee. Others who brought their own rolled to the meeting site with large picnic baskets on wheels, contents including cheese plates, pates, fruits, meats, and spreads. A couple of Boston restaurants also prepared “to-go” baskets of food specifically for the event, including Petit Robert Bistro and Beacon Hill Bistro.
Upon crossing the Fort Point Channel on Seaport Blvd., all those dressed in white realized the location. Fan Pier Plaza, on the lawn of the John Joseph Moakley Federal Courthouse was the location! A live band of the French variety was set-up and had begun. Colored lights illuminated the trees, and white balloons added to the ambiance. With a view of the Boston Harbor Hotel and the sailboats that lingered in the Harbor, event-goers quickly set up their white table settings, with first course and second course plates, flowers, tablecloths, and candles. The party was underway and I must say it was a very good time!
